FOALING TIPS - Be prepared!

DON'T LOSE SLEEP OVER THE BIRTH OF YOUR FOAL

Logo Birth_Alarm
> Remember to inform your vet of foal's expected foaling date and ensure that veterinary support will be available

> Ensure your foaling box has a deep clean bed- ideally wheat straw

> Acclimatise your mare to the foaling box and foaling alarm well in advance of the final countdown to the birth

> If you choose to use CCTV to monitor your mare, make sure it is set up and running correctly in advance

> When using a foaling alarm you can often maintain a regular sleep pattern.
However, if you choose not to use an alarm keep yourself awake with plenty of hot drinks and your favourite
book

> Have your foaling kit ready. A basic kit should include a tail bandage, head collar and lead rope, towels,
contact numbers for the vet and anyone else you might need, pen and paper, a watch, string, antiseptic to
treat the foals navel, a torch, a bucket, access to warm water and a camera to capture that special moment!
